The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives from cancer, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education and service.
In April 1992, Lucy Young, a cancer survivor, established a cancer organization to fill the Chinese community's needs for support services. A year later, it joined efforts with the American Cancer Society and became the first Chinese Unit. The unit provides resources, information, guidance and services to the Chinese community.
